Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about vehicle tracking, fleet management, and working with Fleet Forrest in South Africa.
01How does GPS tracking work?
GPS (Global Positioning System) tracking uses a small hardware device installed in your vehicle that communicates with a network of satellites to determine the vehicle's precise geographic location. This location data is transmitted via cellular (GSM) or satellite networks to our secure servers, where it is processed and displayed in real time on your Fleet Forrest tracking portal. Updates can occur as frequently as every 10–30 seconds, giving you an accurate, near-live view of your vehicle's position at all times.
02What is remote engine cut-off?
Remote engine cut-off (also called remote immobilisation) is a feature that allows an authorised operator — through our secure platform — to send a command to the vehicle's tracking unit, which then interrupts the starter circuit, preventing the engine from being restarted. This is used strictly in controlled, safety-critical circumstances such as confirmed vehicle theft, and only by authorised personnel. The vehicle will not cut off abruptly while in motion; the immobilisation activates safely when the vehicle next comes to a stop to prevent accidents.
03Do you offer installation at my location?
Yes. Fleet Forrest offers two convenient installation options. With our "We Come to You" service, one of our certified technicians will travel to your home, workplace, or any agreed-upon location to install the tracking unit at your convenience. Alternatively, with "You Come to Us," you can bring your vehicle to one of our installation centres. Both options include a full post-installation check to confirm the device is active and reporting correctly. Contact us to confirm availability in your area and to schedule an appointment.
04How do I log in to my tracking portal?
Once your Fleet Forrest unit is installed and activated, you will receive a welcome email containing your account credentials and a link to the tracking portal. You can log in from any web browser on desktop, tablet, or mobile. A companion mobile app may also be available depending on the tracking platform assigned to your account. If you have not received your login details or have forgotten your credentials, contact our support team at [email protected] or call (015) 004 0518.
05What tracking platforms do you use?
Fleet Forrest works with industry-leading, enterprise-grade telematics platforms that are proven in the South African market. The specific platform your account uses may vary based on your fleet size, service package, and feature requirements. All platforms we deploy are cloud-hosted, secure, and accessible from any device. Our team will walk you through the platform during onboarding and provide training documentation to help you get the most out of your subscription.
06Is there a 24/7 monitoring service?
Yes. Fleet Forrest operates a dedicated monitoring control room staffed by trained operators 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In the event of a vehicle theft, a geofence breach, or another critical alert, our team is notified instantly and can initiate a response — including liaising with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and private security response companies — to coordinate vehicle recovery. This service is included with qualifying subscription plans.
07What fleet sizes do you support?
Fleet Forrest is built to scale. We work with individual vehicle owners who need to track a single personal car, all the way up to large corporate fleets with hundreds of vehicles. Our platform and pricing are structured to accommodate fleets of all sizes. Whether you have 1 vehicle or 500+, we will design a service package that suits your operational complexity and budget. Contact us or request a quote to discuss your specific requirements.
08How do I get a quote?
Getting a quote is simple and free. Visit our Get a Quote page and complete the short online form — it takes less than 2 minutes. Provide details such as your name, contact information, the number of vehicles you want to track, vehicle types, and your preferred installation method. Our team will review your submission and contact you within one business day with a tailored quote. Alternatively, you can call us directly on (015) 004 0518 or email [email protected].
09What happens if my vehicle is stolen?
If your vehicle is stolen, contact Fleet Forrest immediately on our 24/7 line: +27 10 590 6885. Our monitoring team will pull up the real-time location of your vehicle, initiate our stolen vehicle recovery protocol, and coordinate directly with SAPS and licensed recovery units. In appropriate and safe circumstances, remote engine immobilisation may be employed to prevent the vehicle from being moved further. We will keep you updated throughout the recovery process. Speed of response is critical — always call us as soon as you realise the vehicle is missing.
10Is my data secure?
Absolutely. Fleet Forrest takes data security and privacy extremely seriously. All location data and personal information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Our platforms comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and follow best practices in data governance. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Access to your tracking data is restricted to authorised users only, and all administrative actions are logged in a full audit trail. For more detail, please read our Privacy Policy.
11Can I cancel my subscription at any time?
Our subscription terms vary by plan. Most plans are month-to-month after any initial commitment period. Please review your agreement or contact our team at [email protected] to discuss your specific subscription terms. We aim to be fair and transparent — if circumstances change, we will work with you to find a solution.
12What areas do you cover?
Fleet Forrest provides tracking and fleet management services across South Africa. GPS tracking coverage is dependent on cellular network availability in your area. In remote areas with limited GSM signal, tracking updates may be less frequent. For vehicles that operate in very remote regions, we can discuss satellite-based tracking options. Our installation services are primarily available in Gauteng and surrounding areas, with plans to expand — contact us to confirm availability in your region.
